Dormitory, Kitchen and Water system at Mwanjawanthu Secondary School

The project involved the construction of a boarding dormitory, kitchen, and water reticulation system at Mwanjawanthu Secondary School in Petauke. This initiative was undertaken to enhance the school’s infrastructure, providing improved living, dining, and water supply facilities for students and staff.

The scope of work included:

• Excavation: Clearing and preparing the site by removing soil and debris to create solid foundations for the new structures.
• Footing Foundations: Establishing reinforced concrete footings to support the load of the buildings and ensure structural stability.
• Substructure Construction: Constructing the base structure below the ground level, including foundation walls, to provide a firm base for the superstructure.
• Slab Work: Laying reinforced concrete slabs to serve as the floor and base for each building.
• Blockwork: Building walls and partitions using concrete blocks to ensure durable and robust construction.
• Plastering: Applying a smooth and even finish to the interior and exterior walls to prepare them for painting and enhance durability.
• Tiling: Installing floor and wall tiles in the dormitory and kitchen to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces.
• Painting: Applying protective and decorative coatings to interior and exterior surfaces to enhance the visual appeal of the buildings.
• Electrical Installations: Installing electrical wiring, lighting, and fixtures to provide power and ensure a safe and functional environment.
• Associated External Works: Completing essential external features, including landscaping, pathways, drainage systems, and other outdoor infrastructure to complement the buildings.

Additionally, the water reticulation system was designed and implemented to provide a reliable and efficient water supply to the facilities, ensuring the dormitory and kitchen meet the daily needs of students and staff.

The project was executed with strict adherence to quality and safety standards, delivering infrastructure that meets the school’s immediate and long-term needs.
